What makes Verkada different from a traditional camera system?
There is no NVR or DVR. Each camera stores footage on-device and streams to Verkada Command in the cloud, so you manage users, retention, firmware, and multi-site access from a browser or your phone — and AI search finds people, vehicles, and plates in seconds instead of hours of scrubbing.
Can we keep our existing badge readers and credentials?
Usually. Verkada access controllers work with many third-party readers and cards, so you can modernize the controller and software first and upgrade readers and credentials on your own schedule and budget.
What happens if the internet goes out?
Cameras keep recording locally and access controllers keep enforcing schedules and credentials at the edge. When the connection returns, everything syncs back to Command automatically.
How do the alarms and air quality sensors work together?
Sensors and alarm devices trigger the same platform your cameras live in, so an alert arrives with the video clip attached. Verified alarms can include live agent talk-down through a Verkada speaker before anyone is dispatched.
Can you cover a job site or lot with no power or internet?
Yes — that's exactly what the solar-powered MT81 security trailer is for. It supports multiple Verkada cameras, a horn speaker for talk-down, and a cellular gateway for remote access, and it can be relocated as the project moves.
